    This week I learned that tapping into my inspiration and recognizing it takes time and practice. The adrenaline rush or energy that I feel when I’m excited by an idea or a thought is an indicator of inspiration for me.

    How do you recognize your inspiration?

    No matter where or how we receive our inspiration, recognizing it is the first step.

    The Positive Insight: Inspiration stimulates motivation.

  • Inspiration. . .Are you Attracted?

    The Scenario: A scientist named André-Marie Ampère discovered that two parallel wires carrying equal currents in the same direction attract one another. Watch it here. Each wire creates a circular magnetic field around it that draws them closer to one another. What does this have to do with Inspiration?

    Why are we attracted to inspirational people?

    Is it because they are surrounded by positive energy or because they are moving in a similar direction with their lives? Yes and yes! They have either already accomplished the goals we are working toward or possess some personal quality that we want more of for ourselves.

    I’m attracted to qualities such as. . .

    • Kindness
    • Generosity
    • Selflessness
    • Knowledge
    • Humbleness
    • Humor
    • Passion
    • Drive
    • Ambition
    • Creativity
    • Flexibility
    • Honesty

    The Insight: We are attracted to, naturally align ourselves with, and are inspired by people that motivate us to be who or where we want to be.

  • Inspiration. . .Into Action!

    The Scenario: You are inspired to move forward with your ideas or make changes in your life today. Why do you hesitate and do nothing? “

    To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.” — Aristotle

    How do you turn inspiration into action?

    Inspiration + energy = action. We need the energy to embrace, explore, commit, create and go for it.

    1. Embrace and harness the feeling of your inspiration.

    • Use the excitement, anxiety and fear to move you forward until the questions about your inspiration are answered.

    2. Explore the potential with a trusted group and let ideas evolve.

    • Get feedback from professionals or people who have accomplished a similar goal. Be open to new perspectives for your ideas.

    3. Commit to creating a realistic and strategic plan.

    • This is the most difficult step because we want to see immediate results and quickly reach our goals. Quick plans do not usually yield quick results. Take your time, align your activities and use all your available resources when creating a plan for success.

    4. Create short and long-term goals to achieve your dream.

    • Build in contingencies in reference to time management of the smaller goals. Master the steps along the way to build a foundation for your ideas to evolve.

    5. Go for it. Envision success and don’t let anything stop you.

    • Face your setbacks with creativity and tenacity to reach the next short-term goal. Don’t get overwhelmed by the bigger picture. Stay positive.

    Turning inspiration into action is like making a soufflé. When it’s done right it rises and doesn’t fall.

    The Insight: Turing inspiration into action requires energy. If you do nothing, the result is nothing.

  • Inspiration. . .Can you Catch it?

    The Scenario: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” -Maya Angelou

    Inspiration is everywhere. We just have to be open to see and feel it. Our feelings are the result of messages from the brain. To understand these messages we need to be able to feel them when they arise.

    How do we tap into inspiration so we are open to receive it?

    It’s different for all of us but, much like catching the flu, the conditions have to be just right to receive inspiration. We catch the flu when our immune system is low. We’re inspired when our defenses, distractions and “life clutter” are low. We have to be in the right mental frame of mind to “catch” the feeling of inspiration.

    Here are some suggestions:

    • Say “yes” when you normally say “no”
    • Get outside your comfort zone
    • Create a list of the simple pleasures in life (i.e. “Daily Gifts”)
    • Do something you’ve never done before
    • Read every day
    • Create a “List of Likes” to revisit
    • Look at pictures of happy moments
    • Peruse magazines with pictures of places you’ve never been
    • Turn that mental image into a reality
    • Exercise
    • Surround yourself with empowered, motivated people
    • Construct a “Vision Board”

    The Insight: Inspiration stimulates motivation. Tapping into that feeling is unique for everyone.

  • Inspiration…Do you Know?

    The Scenario: You want to move forward in life with a strong sense of clarity, purpose and intent. Your communities value your personal contributions because they stem from honesty and high personal standards. It’s Monday, and you are positively focused.

    Are you motivated or inspired? Do you know?

    When we motivate or are motivated we impel and drive efforts to push past limits and accomplish goals. It’s tactical. When we inspire or are inspired it means so much more. To inspire is to fill with affect, guide, give rise to, breathe life into or imbue with the spirit to do something as if by divine influence. That is a powerful force that works all around us.

    How do you know when you are inspired?  When you align yourself with the flow of energy that you experience while you are engaged or connected to a thought, activity, or song that moves you to react.

    Whether you change your mind, smile, take a deep breath, jump for joy, dance or cry, the reaction to being inspired is bigger than us and out of our control.

    Those are the feelings we are searching for.

    The Insight: I am inspired when I’m expanding my knowledge and expressing myself.
